Cornfield

I had a dream
I was in a resort building
Wood paneled walls
Modern, ancient
I rode a motorcycle
Up a long spiral ramp
Still inside
A male figure in leathers
Lay sprawled on the floor
He was about twelve inches
From head to toe
I stopped my bike
thinking he might be hurt
I called for help
No one came

I cupped my hands over him
He was completely in shadow
And I breathed the life back into him
He enlarged slowly to my height
He looked like me
Exactly like me
And he was a real jerk
I didn't like him much
He complained to me
I don't have a mother or a father
But at least you have a brother
I said
Yeah he said
And disappeared

Later that same dream
I stood in a cornfield
A farmer drove a tractor
Reaped the corn with giant cutters
Spewed it Into the corn wagon
he dragged behind
the last row disappeared
he roared off into the distance
at light speed,
the wagon
careened along
bouncing the corn
back into the field

the last corn row gone
I saw a door
Odd I thought, and opened it
It led to my bathroom
A shower curtain hung
Between the toilet and the sink
And the medicine cabinet
Had disappeared
I heard a voice
This is how the bathroom
Should have been when you moved in

Back in the empty cornfield
I called out to the kids
Hey Joe, Gracie, come here a minute
I watched as the door opened
They stood there staring
Out into the field
Wow they said
And disappeared.
